The pace of change is too slow, according to industry insiders, who spoke to The Buy-Side Club’s Sarah Dudney at the Diversity Project’s #Time2Deliver event last month. Sarah posed the question, what are the barriers to building a more diverse and inclusive culture in the asset management industry?
Whilst there’s buy-in from the top and bottom, progress now rests upon the shoulders of hiring managers and heads of department. The industry needs to empower managers so they see diversity and inclusion as a major business objective.
Asset owners also have a critical role to play and as the end client, pension funds should be asking asset managers about their D&I practices, which could have a powerful commercial impact.
